You earned your VA benefits. Medicare can work alongside them.
Many veterans don’t realize how Medicare and VA health care fit together. I’ll walk you through your options in plain English, at no cost — so you can make the most of the benefits you’ve earned.
Thank you for your service.
VA health care and Medicare are separate — and they can work together.
Care at the VA
Generally covers care at VA facilities, or outside care the VA authorizes in advance.
Care outside the VA
Helps pay for doctors and hospitals outside the VA system — closer to home, or when the VA can’t see you quickly.
Your choice, every visit
With both, you can choose VA care or Medicare-covered care each time you need it.
Some Medicare Advantage plans are built for veterans.
If the VA already covers your prescriptions, you may not need a Medicare drug plan. Some Medicare Advantage plans leave out drug coverage and are designed to work alongside VA benefits.
VA drug coverage counts as “creditable,” so you generally won’t face a Part D late penalty while you have it. Plans and benefits vary by county — I’ll show you what’s available where you live.
Questions we’ll answer together
Do you get all your prescriptions through the VA? How far do you live from a VA facility? Do you see doctors outside the VA? Would dental, vision or hearing coverage help you? Does your spouse need coverage too?Should I sign up for Part B if I have VA care?
VA health care doesn’t count as coverage that lets you delay Part B without a penalty. If you skip Part B and want it later, you may pay a late penalty for as long as you have it. It’s worth deciding carefully.
Have TRICARE For Life or CHAMPVA?
These work differently from VA health care, and TRICARE For Life generally requires Parts A and B. I’ll review how any Medicare option fits with your coverage before you make a change.

Common questions from veterans
Will a Medicare plan replace my VA benefits?
No. Your VA benefits stay the same. Medicare adds another way to get care outside the VA.
Can I keep using VA doctors and pharmacies?
Yes. You can keep using VA care whenever you choose, as long as you’re eligible.
Does it cost anything to talk with you?
No. My help is free, and plan prices are the same whether you work with me or enroll on your own.
Can my spouse get help too?
Absolutely. Spouses often have different coverage needs, and we can review both of you together.
